BECOME A PANEL PRO: SMART PREPARATION, SPONTANEOUS INTERACTION

A common misconception about panels is that preparation isn’t necessary. In reality, the most effective panels feel effortless because they are carefully prepared. When done well, panels strike a balance between structure and spontaneity—creating space for meaningful exchange, audience engagement, and genuine connection.

Become a Panel Pro: SMART Preparation, Spontaneous Interaction equips participants with a clear, practical approach to both moderating and participating in panels. Drawing on Spoken with Authority’s proven frameworks, this program reframes a panel as a hosted conversation—much like a great dinner party—where thoughtful preparation sets the stage for dynamic, interesting interaction.

Participants learn how to plan strategically before the event, navigate conversations in the moment, and amplify impact afterward. Moderators develop skills to design purposeful agendas, set expectations, guide discussion, manage time, and foster inclusive dialogue. Panelists learn how to listen actively, contribute with intention, build on others’ ideas, and adapt fluidly as conversations unfold. The result: panels that feel polished yet conversational, informative yet engaging—and experiences that resonate with audiences long after the session  ends.

“Our training program on panel presentations with Lauren Shear was exactly what we needed! Lauren listened to our needs and quickly understood our organization. At the end, Lauren facilitated a Showcase of Presentations, so everyone could put new skills to use immediately – Lauren provided useful feedback to everyone that was both constructive and positive. I then spoke on a panel at an EU Commission event and I felt more confident with my remarks while also able to make eye contact with the audience.
